The “Night of the Taranta” is Italy’s biggest folk music festival taking place in the tiny region of Grecìa Salentina (Southern Puglia). It culminates in a concert, held in the historic square near the Augustinian Convent of Melpignano (LE), in front of a 150,000-strong crowd.
This festival aims to rediscover Salento’s folk music, and its fusion with other genres -from world music to rock, from jazz to classical music. It consists of 15 concerts hosting several italian and international artists, who arrange and interpret classics from the local musical tradition.
The “Night of the Taranta” could not have been successful without the Maestri Concertatori's valuable contribution: from Stewart Copeland, the famous drummer for The Police, to Ambrogio Sparagna, who founded the "La Notte della Taranta" Popular Orchestra, and Joe Zawinul, Vittorio Costa, Mauro Pagani, till Ludovico Einaudi, Goran Bregovic and Giovanni Sollima (2013).
