You can bet that Fish Direct (the new App for iOS and Android launched by the cooperative Elif and co-funded by the Adriatico Salentino CAG – Coastal Action Group) will revolutionize the way daily fresh fish is sold and bought. Actually, this device (the first ever in Italy) will facilitate the direct sale of the fish arriving at the main Adriatic harbours within the coastal area under the CAG’s responsibility.
The functioning is very simple.
Fishermen and end users can download a dedicated mobile application, whose graphics and interface are schematic and intuitive in order to facilitate the operations of Data Entry and Consultation.
Each time the fishermen - equipped with an ordinary tablet connected to the Internet – leave the harbour, they will insert the information about the fish that they have caught directly on the boat: type of fish, quantity, weight and quality (first , second or third choice). Moreover, the fishermen can constantly check the trends of their fishing hunts and the weather conditions, as well as they can launch an emergency call in case of need. On their side, the final consumers, who have previously downloaded the free application and then installed it on their smartphone, will receive real-time information according to their interest in the type of fish and the port of reference (depending on the preferences that the have indicated while they were subscribing to the newsletter). In particular, they will receive two notifications: one with reliable predictions of the fish that the fisherman will likely catch, the other with the details of the fish that the fisherman have actually caught. By clicking on each communication, the final consumer will show both his interest in the product and he can reserve its withdrawal within a certain time, at the chosen harbour. Conversely, the fisherman will check the list of the reservations made by the final consumers.
This system – that consists of a web portal, a messaging server application, and two specific mobile applications for fishermen and final consumers – has the great merit of protecting the consumers, who can buy a quality product, whose origins are known, at a lower price. Moreover, this is a valid tool for the fishing activity, since it increases the fishermen’s opportunities of sale.
The project “FishDirect” is funded by the Adriatico Salentino CAG within the OP EFF 2007/2013, Axis IV, Measure 4.1 “Sustainable development of fisheries areas”, and developed by the cooperative Elif.
